Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust Chairwoman Dr. Robin Kelly statement on World Kidney Day
U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-IL) today released the following statement in recognition of World Kidney Day, which raises awareness of the importance of kidney health in order to combat kidney disease.
“Today, we recognize World Kidney Day and the impact of kidney disease across the globe. In the U.S., 26 million adults have kidney disease and 1-in-3 is at risk for kidney disease. We have to reverse this trend,” said Kelly a Democrat from Matteson.
“African Americans, in particular, suffer from kidney failure at more than three times the rate of Caucasians and constitute more than 32% of all patients receiving dialysis for kidney failure. As Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus’ Health Braintrust, I’m working with Congress and stakeholders in the public health and research communities to promote strategies to fight kidney disease.”
